Partnering for Change: Ministerio de Justicia & Mega Plásticos Forge Alliance to Promote Social Reintegration in Paraguay’s East

In a landmark move towards inclusive development, Mega Plásticos S.A. has joined forces with Paraguay’s Ministry of Justice (MJ) to drive social reintegration efforts in the country’s eastern region. This partnership underscores the vital role of private-sector engagement in supporting rehabilitation and second chances.

At present, Mega Plásticos employs over 80 incarcerated individuals under this collaboration. The initiative is active in two major correctional facilities:

  • Juana María de Lara Women’s Rehabilitation & Reintegration Center (Ciudad del Este): 35 female beneficiaries.

  • Social Reintegration Center in Minga Guazú: 48 participants.

Within these facilities, incarcerated individuals receive on-the-job training and engage in the production of high-quality hospital gowns, all under paid employment contracts. The products are supplied to the local market, creating a viable economic channel that reinforces self-sufficiency and dignity.

This alliance is part of the MJ’s broader public policies concerning social reintegration, focusing on decent employment and skills development as core components of genuine rehabilitation. By empowering individuals with real opportunities, the initiative demonstrates how social inclusion can be practised, not merely preached.

The Ministry and Mega Plásticos emphasize that the private sector has more than a supporting role—it is an integral partner in building a more equitable society. Given the right conditions and support, individuals can rebuild their lives and reintegrate productively into their communities.

Looking Ahead
As this collaboration continues, Mega Plásticos commits to scaling efforts, refining training programs, and expanding the range of manufactured items, always aligning with local market demand and community needs. More than a social program, it is a statement of corporate responsibility—with meaningful impact.
